I have just discovered a destination that could compete with the Left Bank in East Fremantle….We are in the Little Creatures Loft. Brilliant, with its mismatched furniture and Parisian style grooves. During the day you overlook the water and the oversized windows make it very lit. We are sitting on the benches and picking up the free wireless..how fantatic is that? Into the evening, there are a few candles sporadically laid out, and the dimness reminds me of Parisian bars. This kind of reminds me of the night cat with its cozy lounge ambiance and sophisticated music.

The wine list is spectacular and houses more than 200 labels. I was enthused as I had always experienced the five beers and one fizzy they did next door. The staff like next door, are brilliant, approachable and friendly. And of course the beer for the enthusiasts is the usual sud on tap, and the boy when asked described it as ‘great, it’s a dark ale’; simple and to the point. Why extrapolate?

There is one in Victoria and NSW. Fremantle bred and the clothes are actually made locally on the high street. Amazing. Who would of thought this still occured?

I’m currently in a marketing role at Linfox and working remotely from one of our FMCG sites. As anything inspiration for me comes from my surroundings; supporting the 11 countries & 14,500 people in this exciting role from this hub is truly an amazing experience. I have an office and this is my view; it has enhanced my understanding of logistics and what we do in operations.

The Dutch called it Rottnest or rats nest due to the many large rats. The quokkas are cute and kind of funny looking, little over sized rats. We took our bikes and went on a 50km bike ride. What a corker of a day, we even went snorkeling in our new wet suits.

Rottnest is a brilliant island, about 10 kilometre long and can be circled on a bicycle in a few hours. There were supposed to be great diving and snorkeling spots. The visibility was not that great on the day even though it was a spectacular day. We only saw 1 coral. There are heaps of organised diving tours from Rotty… look forward to doing one.

From fiery red ochre cliffs contrasting with bright turquoise waters to pearl diving sagas and dinosaur footprints – the history of Broome is as captivating as the scenery.

People who come to cable beach are obsessed with the camel safari. You are offered the choice of an afternoon ride looking out over the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean or a sunset ride with a spectacular Kimberley sunset.

We chose to sit in the Cable Beach Bar…..

Lancelin is a small fishing town nestled between the ocean and sand dunes, an hour drive north from Perth. We were lent a Winnebago.Wow I was soooo impressed with the motor home that I was compelled to pontificate for a while.

This had the capacity to sleep 6 people. With a shower, toilet and kitchenette, it is possible to stay in those remote areas. I was mostly impressed with the cushioning sleeping arrangements. I don’t think I’ll ever go back to camping in tents.

To the east of Lancelin are endless kilometres of white sand dunes. It reminded me of Cappadocia, Turkey a rock town on volcanic terrain.

It has been raining for most of the day and oddly enough it has been happening more frequently in in June. March was delightful, what a surprise the blue skys everyday. Now in June the rainfall is consistent most days. I have been told that this year there is a warmer than usual winter. For me it is warm full stop. A 20 degree day is a delight even if there are a few sporadic clouds here and there. Beautiful, friendly and sunny Perth gets thrown around quite a bit.

This has been our home for the last few weeks. We decided today to move into something that was a bit more homely. This is like a hotel, and an overpriced one. My beef with this one was we were paying a fortune but the kitchen was crap. Ones home needs to be functional; this particular owner was a tight ass and non appreciative of those who may need to cook.

We had a friend visit us and oh how he enjoyed our garden.

The new place backs on to the University of Notre Dame. The University has strong international links, in particular with the University of Notre Dame in Indiana. Only a few minutes away from the high street, the town house has a contemporary feel (not the cheep hotel that marrine terrace has..

The Round House is the oldest remaining building in Western Australia. It was built as a gaol and was the first permanent building in the colony.On our doorstep in Fremantle…

I was fascinated by the architecture because it reminded me of a 1970s Berlin. It reminds me of the public housing all austere and densely woven ships coming in and out. The physical location of Fremantle is at the mouth of the Swan River.. I could imagine this being the first point of arrival for many immigrants. It is very important as a working harbour and fishing centre.

Cable Beach is 22 kilometres of white sand, kissed by warm and crystal waters. It is world famous yes, and an ideal place to watch the sunset on a tropical night. Scary, we had tropical nights in the middle of winter.

How do you find a rock like this… The Broome jetty extension has see the existing structure extended by 148m to a total length of 331m. Smaller boats would launch from here; it was quiet and watching fishing boats, travel trailers and marine motors launch from here was fun.

Five weeks into my stay in Western Australia, I have decided to begin a photo-blog. What a fantabulous place Fremantle is…Moments in time to share with friends and family. Home is Melbourne and there are many like us in WA; here doing the work thannng and enjoying scenes from a spectacular state. Also meeting new people and having wonderful new experiences.
